With Ismael Dominguez in the front of the house and Saul Duran in the kitchen, the pair together run Two Pitas, a Mediterranean restaurant that opened recently on Joseph Street.

Dominguez of Little Ferry noticed Moonachie had many fine-dining options but few casual grab-and-go places that weren't fast food.

He wanted to bring something special to his neighborhood.

"I want to bring food with meaning," he said. "Good, healthy and delicious food -- that's what we're doing here."

When Dominguez saw the opportunity to open a restaurant of his own, he knew Duran would be the perfect person to run the kitchen as head chef, he said.

Everything at Two Pitas is made daily in the kitchen without preservatives or artificial flavors.

Duran created a creamy garlic sauce that contains no dairy but the eatery's signatures dish is the Two Pitas Rice Bowl: Grilled chicken, avocado, cheddar cheese, corn, red onions, brown rice and arugula, topped with a southwest chipotle sauce.

Other favorites include grilled steak paninis, falafel, build-your-own sandwiches, Greek salads and more.

The emphasis is on real and wholesome foods.

"Very often in the work-life flow, people compromise on the quality of food they consume," Dominguez said.

"But you have to remember you are what you eat. Our mission at Two Pitas is to help make healthy happen every day, offering food made with moderation and balance in mind."
