RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A blood drive is being held Monday, Nov. 7 at the Kip Center in Rutherford.
Sponsored by the Rutherford Community Blood Bank, it will run from 3-8 p.m.
Community Blood Services, the Rutherford Community Blood Bank's professional partner, has announced upgrades that will allow for a more donor-friendly process.
Donors also will receive a $5 gift Subway card as a small token of appreciation.
“Many people, like myself, have served for decades,” said Rutherford resident Judith Calviello, former chairperson and one of Rutherford Community Blood Bank's longest serving board members. “We understand the severe ongoing shortage of blood, and that often those who need it are in dire straits. Also, I am one of the directors who has been grateful when blood was available for a seriously ill family member.”
Appointments can be scheduled here. Walk-ins are welcome and no pre-registration is necessary.
Donors 16 or 17 years of age should bring a signed parental consent form, which can be downloaded here .

Representatives from religious, fraternal, civic and other organizations unanimously voted to set up a blood bank in Rutherford on Thursday, April 25, 1957. The first drive, which brought in 136 donations, was held in November of that year at the Elks Club on Ames Avenue in Rutherford.
The Kip Center is located at 55 Kip Ave., Rutherford.
