Fire Lt. Neil O'Hara, a third-generation volunteer firefighter who joined the company in 1969, expects the parade to include fellow companies from surrounding towns - and hopes it reaches further.
"We sent out 800 invitations to towns from New York, New Jersey and Delaware," he said. "Whoever shows up is welcome to join us."
Sean Walker, a 35-year company member and former chief, said the event not only celebrates an anniversary but also recognizes the group's evolution.
The technology used to fight fires has changed but so has the demographic makeup of the company -- and "it's for the better," Walker said.
In 2014, the Rutherford Fire Department started a junior firefighter program for 16-18 year old residents. Walker said he hopes these junior members can continue the legacy.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at the West End Fire House (348 Union Ave.) and end at Lincoln Park.
The after-party will be in the parking lot of the Meadows Office Complex (301 Route 17 North).
