"This event symbolizes hope and the goal of ending a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love," a news release notes. "This event is an opportunity to honor survivors, remember those we have lost, and raise funds and awareness to fight back and help cancer research."

You can register here. Additionally, you can donate to a participating team, individual participant or to the event at large, on the same page. For example, you can join the "Take a Hike with the Mayors Wellness Team" or donate toward its goal.

You can also dedicate a luminaria in honor, memory, or support of a loved one, and you can assign those donation dollars as well.

So far, the 44 teams and 248 participants have raised nearly $13,000.

The event will begin at 7 p.m., at Tryon Field, with set up at 5 p.m. For more information about Relay for Life in general, click here.
