CLOSTER, N.J. — More than $6,600 had been raised as of Wednesday evening on a YouCaring site for a Closter elementary school teacher and mom battling cancer.
Susan Carpenter, a teacher for 16 years, was diagnosed with acute leukemia and had to temporarily relocate away from her family for four months to New York City for intense treatment at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, the page says.
She will have to remain out of work for a year until her immune system is no longer compromised.
Carpenter has "touched the lives of hundreds of young children in Kindergarten and First Grade," organizer Alfred F. Baffa wrote.
