"I want the kids to be involved in doing something nice for others. I think they should practice selfless behavior," Program Coordinator and Children's Librarian Maria Russo said.

The club will hold its first meeting on Jan, 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Members will make valentines to be delivered to the Southwest Senior Activity Center and given to 75 different senior citizens.

Russo said she has already recruited a handful of children to join the club and is hoping to get as many as 30 participants.

In the future, Russo said the club will make dog toys to deliver to a local animal shelter, write friendly letters and hide them in books around the library, plant a garden in the springtime, and make Christmas cards for troops overseas.

All ages are welcomed. Registration is suggested. Participants could register online for this event by visiting, eastrutherford.bccls.org.
