EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Happy birthday to East Rutherford's Edwin Anzalone!
Edwin Anzalone, also known as Fireman Ed, turned 56 Saturday.
Anzalone, a retired New York City firefighter and New York Jets superfan was born Sept. 19, 1959 in College Point, N.Y.
As "Fireman Ed," Anzalone is one of the most well known fans of the National Football League due to his enthusiastic "J-E-T-S" chants, fireman helmet and appearances on various local radio shows. He is featured in the Hall of Fans exhibit at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
He retired the "Fireman Ed" mascot persona following the infamous "butt fumble" of Thanksgiving 2012 and subsequent harassment from other fans, but returned Sept. 13 for the 2015 season.
