TEANECK, N.J. -- With selections that ranged from Handel to the Temptations,  a 24-member chorus of Teaneck parishioners took to the water for a unique fundraiser.

To help St. Mark’s Episcopal Church repair a broken drainage system, the St. Mark's singers donned colorful rain slickers Saturday for “Singin’ for the Drain” before a standing-room-only audience.

Fittingly, the program included "Down by the Riverside,” “Over the Rainbow,” “I Wish It Would Rain,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” -- not to mention the title song from the Gene Kelly film “Singin’ in the Rain,” among others.

Soloists -- including Jim Pruden, JoAnn Riccardi, Andrew Butler, Ardie Walser and Mary Kearney -- were well-received, but the biggest ovation went to 10-year-old Carter Fowlkes for his rendition of “I Never Touched a Rainbow.”

The concert was organized by George Wesner, director of music and the organist at the church.

Wesner joined with guest percussionist Matthew Beaumont to play an excerpt from George Frederick Handel‘s “Water Music Suite.”
