The Paramus Police Department was awarded $1.8 million, with help from U.S. District 5 Rep Josh Gottheimer, and will go toward hiring five officers as soon as Dec. 5, Paramus officials announced Tuesday morning.

Moonachie's department was awarded $125,000, and will hire one officer.

"The 'COPS' grant is just one place and one way we are able to claw back those dollars [from Washington] to protect police, to protect us," the congressman said.

"Law enforcement does such a good job every day being on the front lines, stopping [crime] before we ever have to face it."
