It launched a safety grade program in 2012, which assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to general acute-care hospitals in the U.S., and has seen effected significant strides in improving patient safety.
There are 63 out of nearly 2,700 hospitals in the U.S. that received A's since 2012 — three are in New Jersey.
New Jersey rose from 22nd to 15th best from a year ago, based on the number of hospitals that earned an A.
The Hospital Safety Grade is the first and only national health care rating focused on errors, accidents and infections, Leapfrog said.
Here's how Bergen County hospitals scored:
Most Improved:
- Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley in Westwood improved from D to B
The A's:
- Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (honor roll)
- Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck
- The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood
The B's:
- Hackensack University Medical Center
The C's:
- St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Paterson/Wayne
- St. Mary's General Hospital, Passaic
