West Pierrepont Avenue between Mortimer Avenue and Stuyvesant Avenue will be closed until approximately 5 p.m. today.

Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said milling and paving work are being done on the streets in that area.

"This is the end result of PSE&G's Energy Strong Program," Russo said. "That section by the school is expected to be completed today."

PSE&G's $1.22 billion program allows the utility to proactively protect and strengthen its electric and gas systems against severe weather damage like the state experienced during Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy.

Work is expected to continue onto Montross Avenue tomorrow, Oct. 14.
