EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Adolf A. "Otto" Hediger, of East Rutherford, died Nov. 27. He was 88.
Hediger was born Nov. 23, 1928.
He served as a Seabee with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was the proprietor of Hediger's Fuel Oil in East Rutherford from 1953 until retiring in 1995. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church and a member of the Catholic War Veterans' Post 663. For 31 years, he was a member of the East Rutherford Fire Department Truck Company 1 and was a past chief for six years. He was a member of the state Firemen's Exempt Association and state Chief's Association.
Hediger enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Travelers Golf Club. He loved to travel with his wife and was a snowbird, spending time in Palm Coast, Fla., where he was a member of the Palm Coast Florida Golf Club, the Palm Coast American Legion and the New Jersey Social Club of Palm Coast.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine (nee Morreale) Hediger; children, Alan Hediger and his wife Barbara, Kenneth Hediger and his wife Jill and Glenn Hediger and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Justine Settembrino and her husband Mike, Melissa Hediger, Anthony Hediger, Marissa Bednarski and her husband Kyle, Brett Horowitz and his wife Alison, Samantha Stagg, Nicholas McClernon, Anna McClernon, Eve McClernon and the late Christopher Hediger; great-grandchildren, Ryder Settembrino, Tyler Horowitz and Carter Bednarski; and siblings, Clara Stanton, Rose Flintrop and the late Ida Apap.
There will be a funeral departing at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad St., Carlstadt for a 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass in St. Joseph's R.C. Church in East Rutherford. Interment to follow. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
