Anthony Santoro, 93, Of East Rutherford

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Anthony Santoro, of East Rutherford, died Nov. 3. He was 93.

He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in New York' he lived most of his life in East Rutherford.  

More then anything else, he was a people person. He loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed family get-togethers and watching his family grow. He loved being part of the East Rutherford Seniors and went on their Atlantic City trips, calling bingo at the meetings and getting the coffee going ahead of them. 

He was a World War II veteran and received the French Legion of Honor Medal for his help in liberating France. He belonged to the VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He attended St. Joseph Church in East Rutherford and until recently was one of the ushers.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Patricia and Keith Charlesworth and June and Bob Yucius; grandchildren, Jenn Yucius, Laura and Zack Main, Jill and Joe Retz and Kyle and Tanya Charlesworth; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Gage, Bridget, Catherine, Spencer, JR, Juliana, Jaxon, Allison, Emma and Elizabeth.

There will be a funeral at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Macagna Diffily Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., Rutherford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 120 Hoboken Road, East Rutherford. Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Villa Marie Claire (Hospice), 12 West Saddle River Road, Saddle River or the Harkness Eye Institute, NYC Cornell Research Fund
