Blanche Larkin, 83, of Rutherford

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Blanche (Vanburen) Larkin, a long time resident of Rutherford, died on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 83.

Larkin was married to Charles A. Larkin for 61 years.

She was a classical dancer who taught modern dance, ballet and middle eastern folk dance, who said “To dance is the universal expression of joy.” She performed often in the metropolitan area and was known as “Nubia, grace in motion.”

She is survived by her husband, a professor emeritus of Essex County College, along with grandchildren Jonah and wife Lavinia, Thomas Jr., Fred, Erica and husband Shawn; and Janette. She also has five great-grandchildren; Jasmine, Egypt, Nia, Landon and Bryson, daughter-in-law Teresa Larkin, and sister-in-law Pauline Larkin.

Three children, Sheela, Thomas, and Anthony, all deceased.

Funeral services are Friday in the Rhema Worship Center, 381 N. Midland Ave., Saddle Brook at 9:45 a.m. with interment following in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
