Cremation To Follow Monday Service For Popular Ramsey Teen

RAMSEY, N.J. -- A private cremation will follow a funeral service Monday for a former Ramsey High School soccer captain who died suddenly on Wednesday.

A service for Samuel Wyatt "Sam" Berman, 19, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul RC Church, 200 Wyckoff Ave. in Ramsey.

The family asked that attendees meet at the church.

Sam is survived by his parents, Don and Rosemarie Berman, his sister, Lauren Deger, and her husband, and his grandparents, Sergio and Mary Sciancalepore.

He also leaves aunts, uncles and cousins.

The 2016 Ramsey High School graduate was also captain of the Ironbound Premier Strikers.

"We will treasure our memories of Sam and will always remember his kindness, his laugh, his mastery of ping pong, but most of all his love for his family and friends," his obituary says.

Visiting will be from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sam to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
