RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Eugene C. "Chief" Kretz, 82, a lifelong resident of Carlstadt died Monday, Dec. 14.
Kretz served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. For over 10 years he was a carpenter for Joseph M. Sanzari in North Bergen, retiring in 2001. Prior to that, for 20 years he owned his own construction company.
He was also a member of the Snipe Boat Club in Carlstadt and was an avid boater.
He was predeceased in death by his wife, Florence Dolores Kretz; his daughter, Karen Ann Herritt; and siblings Rudolph Kretz, Elizabeth Kruse, May Caskgrande and Ann Marie Kretz.
He is survived by his daughters, Dolores Growney (Jack), Marybeth Kretz (Jeff), Janine Trainer (John); grandchildren Craig, Lauren, Kyle, Kerri and Paige; and siblings Amelia Whoitmore Margaret Moore, Dorothy Bunty, Frances Risko, Robert Kretz and Patricia Weiss.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 20, from 2-6 p.m. at the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad St., Carlstadt. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 21, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, East Rutherford. Interment will be at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
