Born in Cuba, Ortega came to the United States in 1956. He was a foreman for many years, for a machine shop in Newark, before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Teresa (Gomez) Ortega; children Jose Ortega and his wife Daniella, and Myrna Cabrera and her husband Sergio; and grandchildren Katelyne Ortega, Cora Drew Ortega, Sergio Cabrera and Christina Cabrera.
Ortega was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew Ortega.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 8, in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., in Rutherford. A funeral will be held on Saturday from the funeral home, gathering at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. mass at the Church of Saint Mary, in Rutherford. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, in Lyndhurst.
