CARLSTADT, N.J. – The owner of a Carlstadt roofing business was sentenced Thursday morning to six months in prison and six months of home confinement after admitting he used using $191,295 in income that he didn't report on his tax returns for personal expenses.

Michael Tattoli pleaded guilty in federal court in Trenton in June to not reporting income on his 2010, 2011 and 2012 tax returns.

An investigation by the IRS-Criminal Investigation Newark Field Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office turned up checks made out to Mike’s All Seasons Roofing and Construction Company that Tattoli deposited into his personal bank account, authorities said.

U.S. District Court Judge Anne E. Thompson also ordered Tattoli to serve one year of supervised release and pay a fine of $3,000.

Handling the case fof the government is Assistant U.S. Attorney Lorraine Gerson.

Sentencing in U.S. District Court in Newark was set for Oct. 5.
