Johnny Horvath, 45, Daniel Horvath, 25, and 20-year-old Monica “Becky” Horvath are related to Victoria Horvath, 42, of Elizabeth, who federal authorities have identified as one of the organization’s ringleader.
Horvath was supplied by pharmacist Vincent Cozzarelli, 77, who owns Rossmore Pharmacy in Belleville, “even though he knew the prescriptions were fraudulently obtained,” U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said this afternoon.
The DEA arrested a dozen of the defendants today and two yesterday. They were being brought into U.S. District Court in Newark this afternoon.
Two others, Rhonda Musallam of Jersey City and Brian “B” Perez, were at large this afternoon, Fishman said.
Federal authorities charged each of them with a single count of conspiring to possess and distribute oxycodone.
According to the federal complaint on file in Newark:
“Using confidential sources, physical surveillance, and recorded text messages and telephone calls, investigators with the DEA discovered that members and suppliers of a drug trafficking organization (DTO) secured prescriptions for oxycodone and other controlled substances from various doctors in New Jersey, filled them at pharmacies in Belleville and elsewhere, and sold the drugs for a profit.”
Fisman credited the DEA with the investigation that made the case possible. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charlton A. Rugg of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force in Newark is representing the government.
