PUBLIC SAFETY: Police this month are concentrating on stopping texting drivers in order to help make area roads safer.
Taking your attention off the road — for even just a few seconds — could hurt or kill you or someone else, police say.
As a result, police are dedicating the first three weeks of April to aggressively enforce distracted driving laws through a state-funded initiative called “UDrive UText UPay.”
The penalties are considered severe ( see photo, above ).
Distracted driving, particularly involving texting, has contributed to a growing number of crashes nationwide, making such programs necessary, authorities say.
