Rutherford firefighters and Volunteer Ambulance Corps members joined police at the scene just after 11 p.m.

A 2010 Nissan Rogue driven by Kimberly Kulik in the eastbound highway’s center lane struck the driver’s side rear wheel of a 2007 Freightliner, sending it rolling, Capt. Patrick Feliciano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Kulik “admitted to consuming alcohol” and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and to give blood samples, Feliciano said.

She initially received summonses for careless driving, having an open alcoholic beverage in the car and driving an uninsured vehicle, pending the results of the blood test, the captain said.

Route 3 East was shut down nearly 2½ hours while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared.
