YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Queens man trucker the Port Authority said owed a whopping $28,000 in unpaid tolls — as well as three outstanding traffic warrants — was ordered held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail after authorities said they caught him trying to duck the fare on the George Washington Bridge.
Fort Lee Municipal Court Judge John DeSheplo deemed the offenses severe enough to warrant the bail for Marcus Tifa, 34, who also had detainers placed on him for warrants out of East Rutherford Kearny and Trenton.
As CLIFFVIEW PILOT was the first to report yesterday, Tifa drove a 2003 Freight Liner tractor trailer with the license plates obscured onto the Fort Lee side of the bridge and through a cash toll lane without paying, according to the authority’s Joe Pentangelo. But Port Authority police were right there and caught him, Pentangelo said.
Tifa is charged with theft and tampering with public records.
The truck is registered to Cargo Transfer in Englewood.
