The United Airlines 757 was in line to head to Amsterdam when the smoke was spotted around 6:10 p.m., the Port Authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

The smoke “appeared to be located near the airliner’s brakes,” he said, adding that there was no fire.

Port Authority police helped unload everyone aboard. They were then taken by bus to Terminal C.

The airport remained open.
