As if our airspace hasn’t become perilous enough, pilots of two international flights reported green laser beams illiminating their cockpits as they passed near Teterboro Airport this week on their way to Europe from Newark. Early indications are an astronomy telescope could be to blame for the incidents, reported around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday within two miles of Teterboro, said N.J. State Police Sgt. Steve Jones .
Telescopes pointed at the stars often use lasers to determine changes in atmosphere by reducing distortion. They also can be used to pinpoint distances between objects.
