Officer Tyler Boucher stopped the rented 2008 Dodge Caravan with Georgia registration for an unspecified violation on Thanksgiving Eve and spotted one of the occupants hiding beneath the coats, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.

The coats – with brand names that included Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Nautica -- still had security tags on them, he said.

Backup Officers Jonathan Weber and Sean Hayes joined Boucher and got all of the occupants out of the vehicle.

A check found several outstanding warrants for one of them, 34-year-old Alterik Loyal, Batelli said.

He was taken into custody along with the others, identified as

Tyquan Warren, 25, John Kadeem, 25, an underage boy and the driver, 24-year-old Hassan Hunter.

The adults were all charged with possession of stolen property a crime of the third degree.

The boy was released to a family member.

Hunter also received motor summonses for careless driving, failure to give proper signal and having a windshield obstruction.

He and Warren were released pending a court date. The juvenile was released to a parent.

Loyal and Kadeem were ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending detention hearings.

The minivan was impounded.

Police were trying to determine which store or stores the coats were taken from.
