EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A tractor-trailer driver ran a red light before his rig struck a mini-van on Paterson Plank Road (Route 120) near the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford Thursday afternoon, critically injuring the other driver, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. The victim had to be extricated after the crash, which occurred just before 1:45 p.m. in front of the Hampton Inn at the Carlstadt border, at the intersection of Rt. 120 and Ramp “T.”

An investigation by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit and the East Rutherford Police Department revealed that the 2007 International 94001, which was headed south on the highway "failed to stop for a red traffic signal" and broadsided the 2001 Honda Odyssey, the prosecutor said.

"As a result, the minivan driver suffered serious bodily injuries and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center," he added.

"At the time of this press release, the driver was listed in critical condition," Grewal said late Friday morning. "No criminal charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is still ongoing."
