EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – A 77-year-old widower brought three guns for sale to a meeting in East Rutherford with an undercover detective who took him into custody, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Tuesday night.
Jack Koval Jr. had a fourth, loaded handgun in his Bayonne home – along with $100,000 in cash – when Grewal’s investigators raided it after Saturday’s arrest, the prosecutor said.
A judge ordered Koval released without bail pending an Oct. 5 first court appearance, he said.
Authorities charged the retiree with illegally selling a firearm.
“The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be considered by the grand jury,” Grewal said.
The prosecutor also thanked Dumont, East Rutherford and State Police for their assistance in the case.
