MAHWAH, N.J. – A ski-masked gunman held up two area businesses overnight Thursday – a gas station in Mahwah and a 7-Eleven in Elmwood Park, authorities said.
The robber stuck a silver handgun with a black grip in the attendant’s face at the Liberty Gas Station/Quick Stop Deli on northbound Route 17 around 3 a.m. Thursday, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said.
The attendant was pulling money from the register for him when the robber “reached over the counter and began to remove cash,” Batelli said.
He then ran from the store to an another attendant who was sitting in a booth by the pumps, the chief said – but he told the robber he didn’t have any cash.
The gunman then ran toward the back of Coach Bus depot on Leisure Lane with about $400, he said.
A perimeter was set up around the Sheraton parking lot and surrounding area, but the robber vanished, Batelli said.
He was described the robber as dark-skinned and wearing dark-colored pants with zippers near the knee, a blue sweatshirt, green tee shirt and gloves.
“It’s the exact same description as the Elmwood Park 7-Eleven [robber],” Batelli said.
who made off with $350 in cash from an Elmwood Park 7-Eleven before dawn Thursday, authorities said.
It was around 4:15 a.m. when the robber entered that store at the corner of Market Street and Mola Boulevard, pointed his gun at the clerk and demanded money before fleeing with the cash to a getaway car with tinted windows parked in an adjoining lot, Elmwood Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
