GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Three vehicles stolen from residential driveways the past two weeks -- one of them overnight Monday -- has Glen Rock police warning motorists to lock their cars and take their keys.

"In each case, the vehicles were unlocked and the key fobs were in the vehicles," Police Chief Dean Ackermann said Monday morning.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen from Highland Road this morning "had a credit card in it that was

used at a fast food restaurant in Irvington," Ackermann said.

The two other vehicles -- a 2016 Lexus GC snatched from Windham Place on Oct. 31st and another Grand Cherokee from Yardley Court on November 7 -- were recovered in Newark, he said.

Detectives were investigating leads -- including using video surveillance from a resident whose vehicles Ackermann said were locked "and, therefore, not taken." (see link above)

"Any residents or business owners with video surveillance systems are asked to check overnight activity for any persons who may have entered their driveways or yards in a similar manner," the chief said.

Those who find something are asked to contact Detective Jim Calaski at (201) 670-3948 or Detectove Mike Trover at (201) 670-3947 .

As the chief emphasized, countless residents throughout Bergen County have been victimized -- simply by leaving the fob in an unlocked vehicle.

"There is no place, including your driveway, where it is safe to leave a vehicle with the keys or key fob inside," Ackermann said.

"Lock your vehicle and take the keys with you at all times," he said. "Do not leave valuables in plain sight."
