RAMSEY, N.J. – Peter Rohrman of Ramsey doesn’t like it when people tell him how to act.

“Since I was a child, I have never liked anyone telling me what to do, how to do it, what to wear, what to say,” Rohrman told Daily Voice.

So when he discovered the Libertarian party, and went to its state convention for the first time in 2015, he said he fit right in.

“The Libertarian party is all about personal and economic freedom,” said Rohrman, who is running for New Jersey governor on the Libertarian ticket.

Rohrman made unsuccessful bids for Bergen County Freeholder as a Libertarian in both 2015 and 2016.

His party’s vision is “for a world in which all individuals have the right to exercise sole control over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live as they choose,” according to its website.

Rohrman is a Rutgers University graduate and network engineer who grew up in Carlstadt. He spent eight years as a rifleman in the U.S. Marine Corps, and served in Operation Desert Storm. He has two sons, and before moving to Ramsey lived in Ho-Ho-Kus with his then-wife.

Rohrman said his gubernatorial platform includes things like: lowering taxes; creating a voucher program to expand school choice; ending the war on drugs by first legalizing marijuana and pardoning non-violent criminals in state prisons; overturning the state’s gun control laws to eliminate restrictions on concealed carry, magazine capacity and hollow point ammunition; and pardoning those convicted under gun control laws.

Since being nominated to run for governor, Rohrman said he has been busy building his statewide team.

He is focused on getting the signatures needed to be put on the official ballot, and once that is complete he will move onto fundraising and campaigning, he said.
