Rutherford High School Senior Wins Girl Scout Gold Award

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- St. Mary High School senior Amanda Witkowski has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award by raising awareness of autism spectrum disorders.

Witkowski spoke about autism at events and community group meetings, and distributed information through pamphlets, posters, and flyers and website postings.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, requiring the completion of a leadership project of at least 80 hours.

Recipients must discover an issue within the community, connect with experts and community members and take action to effect positive change.
