Rutherford's Lincoln School Commemorates Flag Day

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- First-grade students of Lincoln School in Rutherford recently commemorated Flag Day.

They placed flags along the walkways leading up the front of the school, on Montross Avenue.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14, and it commemorates the the Second Continental Congress' adoption of the flag, on June 14, 1777. President Woodrow Wilson established June 14 as Flag Day in 1916, and in 1949, National Flag Day was established by an act of Congress -- but it's still not a federal holiday.
