Angel Rivera Bridal Atelier opened its doors on Park Avenue last month and will be presenting its fall 2016 collection Oct. 9 and 10.

“I was designing bridal gowns since I was 5 years old,” said Rivera, an Ohio native. “I knew when I was old enough, I wanted to go to college and study fashion.

“There was a flower park in Ohio,” he recalled. “Brides always went to go to take photos. It was always so beautiful and the happiest time of their life.... [T]hey were so happy on that day.”

Rivera followed his dream, and got his bachelor degree at Youngstown State University, then moved to Manhattan to attend Parsons School of Design.

After graduation, he went on to work for several New York City designers, including Kleinfeld Bridal. Six year ago, he launched his own brand.

Rivera began making dresses mainly for friends. Then more clients began asking for them. Before long, his gowns were selling at bridal stores across the country.

There was no local store, however, so he opened his flagship location.

“The only time that a woman will be able to put on something that is amazing is their wedding day — unless they are a celebrity or TV personality,” Rivera said. “There aren’t many opportunities on a day to day basis to have that red carpet moment. I want to see my clients so happy, I wanted to be part of that and give them their red carpet moment.”
