The station, which is set to open May 15, straddles the border between Wood-Ridge and Wallington, but is designed to only allow access from Wood-Ridge.
The Wallington Coalition for Transit Access (WCTA) believes both boroughs should be able to share in the benefits of having a nearby train station.
“Wallington residents should have equal access to the train station," said Donald Nuckel, whose family is one of the largest owners of real estate in Wallington.
"Mass transit should be available to all. Once we make the connection to the station from Wallington, all properties in the community go up in value.”
Wallington has a summary judgment from Bergen County Superior Court establishing a right of way from Main Avenue to Westmont Station, Nuckel said.
“That right of way opens up train access to the residents of Wallington. Everyone benefits,” he said.
Nuckel also has plans to develop the property adjacent to the Westmont Station in Wallington.
The site, located between Industrial Latex and Farmland Dairy, would be a transit-oriented housing mix of studios and one-bedroom units, designed to attract millennials and empty nesters wanting to stay in Wallington
