"When we found out I was pregnant in July, we were joking about it," Carter's mother Jennifer said of his Feb. 29 birthday.

Jennifer and David Cuozzo thought Carter would be born earlier but the eight pound, 10 ounce baby boy joined his siblings Shea and Zachary in the family in time for leap day.

Jennifer Glock-Cuozzo said they will celebrate his birthday March 1 going forward, since Shea's birthday is in February.

"I think it's fun," she told Daily Voice. "It's pretty special."

Toby Greene Feldman of Fair Lawn turned 52 the same day, but only celebrated her actual birthday for the 13th time.

At her surprise party on Saturday, Feldman said all the decorations had a 13th-birthday theme.

"It's weird to look at a calendar and not see your birthday," she said, "just as this year it's awesome to actually turn the 'Today' show on and have it say, 'Good morning. Today's Feb. 29.'"

Feldman celebrates her birthday Feb. 28 most times because her mother said she was born in February, not March.

A few times the unique birthday impacted Feldman's life. When she started her first job after graduating Rutgers, the human resources representative called her to say her birthday "wasn't working" in their system.

She also was delayed from having her first drink after turning 21 because as of Feb. 28, she hadn't had her 21st birthday yet.

Feb. 29 is the only day Feldman receives a flood of Facebook birthday posts, as she said the site skips notifications for it other years.

"Even Facebook forgets you," she said.
