Dorothy Wilma Lewerenz, 83, Of Rutherford

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Dorothy Wilma Lewerenz, of Rutherford, died on Friday, Dec. 9. She was 83.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to Captain Ernest August Max Lewerenz and Hazel Sylvester Park Lewerenz. She was raised in Boston and Rutherford. She earned an associate’s degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Columbia University in New York City. 

After graduating from Columbia, she completed nursing training at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital until she began working with David M.C. Ju, M.D., an internationally renowned plastic surgeon and researcher on melanoma. She was his longstanding surgical nurse and worked with him until his passing in 1996, at which time she retired. She had a lifelong love of horses, dogs, and travel.

There will be a visitation from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Calhoun - Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, followed immediately by a funeral service with Reverend Peter Wilkinson officiating. Burial follows at Hillside Cemetery, 742 Rutherford Ave., Lyndhurst. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Puppies Behind Bars, 263 W. 38th Street, New York, NY 10018.
