Longtime Rutherford Dentist Dr. Yaroslaw Stawnychy Dies At 75

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Dr. Yaroslaw Stawnychy, of Rutherford, died on Saturday, Dec. 24. He was 75.

Born in Stryj, Ukraine, Stawnychy immigrated to the United States in 1950. He graduated from the NYU Dental School and practiced dentistry in Rutherford for over 30 years.

He also taught new generations of dentists, at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He was a member of Ukrainian Plast Scouting in the Chervona Kalyna Fraternity and was a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Stawnychy is survived by his wife, Olga (Paluch); son Michael and his wife Laura; and brother Vladimir Artymyshyn and his wife Lydia. He was predeceased by his parents, Mychajlo and Luba (Vynnytsky) Stawnychy.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., in Rutherford, followed by a 9:30 a.m. funeral service in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 217 President St., in Passaic. Interment will be in Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, 141 Sarah Wells Trail, in Campbell Hall, New York.
