Francis Tattoli, 24, was charged with attempted murder and weapons possession after East Rutherford police caught him moments later, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal

The victim, 25-year-old Monet Thomas of Kearny was visiting another resident in the 258 Summer Street complex when Tattoli attacked her, Grewal said.

Her body “was later discovered just inside the doorway of Tattoli’s first-floor apartment,” the prosecutor said.

Thomas, who was unresponsive, “was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition,” the prosecutor said Monday night.

Tattoli “fled his apartment but was soon apprehended by East Rutherford Police a short distance from the home,” Grewal said.

His father, Michael Tattoli, was sentenced in October to six months in prison and six months of home confinement after admitting he used using $191,295 in income that he didn't report on his tax returns for personal expenses.

The elder Tattoli pleaded guilty in federal court in Trenton in June to not reporting income on his 2010, 2011 and 2012 tax returns.
