Ex-Hillsdale officer killed in Route 17 drag race

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Former Hillsdale Police Officer Cameron “Cam” Arki was killed around 9:30 last night after his speeding car careened off Route 17 in Ramsey and slammed into an empty trailer in a parking lot during a drag race, several law enforcement authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli this afternoon said two people were arrested in connection with the fatal accident of former Hillsdale Police Officer Cameron Arki during a drag race between friends up Route 17 that topped 100 miles an hour. READ MORE….

The other driver is being charged with state motor vehicle violations, including speeding, in a race that reportedly reached speeds of 100 miles an hour, the sources said.

The driver — who hasn’t yet been identified — also is being charged with hindering apprehension, they said.

Arki (whose real last name was Jalali-Arki), 26, spent several years on West Newell Avenue in Rutherford before moving to Clifton. He unexpectedly left the Hillsdale force last July. His mom was graduated from North Bergen High School in 1971.

A news release was expected from Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.
