The others had gotten across the road when Raymond Kellen, who was walking behind them, was struck just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, said police in Satellite Beach, on a peninsula just south of Cape Canaveral.

Kellen died at a local hospital, they said.

The driver, a 25-year-old Satellite Beach woman, told investigators That Kellen “just appeared in front of her and she had no time to react. [She] immediately stopped at the scene and waited for police.”

“It’s still very early in our investigation,” Satellite Beach Police Commander Brad Hodge said. “[H]owever, based on the information we have, it appears that Mr. Kellen did not see the car coming as he followed behind his wife and group of friends as they crossed [State Road] A1A.

“There were no indications that the driver was impaired in any way and she was fully cooperative with our investigators at the scene,” Hodge said.
